About Dr. Andrew Francis

Dr. Andrew Francis is a board-certified, vitreoretinal surgeon devoted to delivering exceptional care and innovative solutions for his patients. Dr. Francis is the owner of Chicagoland Retina, Ltd. and has an unwavering passion for eye health. His educational journey includes several prestigious institutions, awards, and publications.

Educational Path

Dr. Francis completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley  and earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Boston University School of Medicine, where he received multiple awards for his international volunteer work in Ghana. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he fine-tuned his diagnostic and surgical skills. He published numerous research articles as a resident-physician and received several awards including the Beem Fisher Award and Rabb-Venable Award for innovative clinical research. After residency, he obtained additional training in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, completing a 2-year fellowship at the University of California San Francisco. He published numerous research articles as a clinical fellow. 

Dr. Francis remains dedicated to continuing his education and is currently a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retinal Specialists, Illinois Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons, Chicago Ophthalmological Society and the Illinois State Medical Society. He is board certified in ophthalmology and is licensed to practice in Illinois, Michigan, and California.

Guided by a patient-centric ethos, Dr. Andrew Francis ensures that each patient receives individualized attention, comprehensive education about their condition, and a tailored treatment plan. He believes in fostering open dialogue and building lasting partnerships to achieve the best possible outcomes. He also is committed to reducing barriers that prevent access to care. His staff is fluent in several languages including Spanish and Urdu. He participates annually in the UChicago Medicine | AdventHealth Mission Health Screening program as well as the UChicago Medicine | AdventHealth Home Visit program.

His practice fosters strong relationships with community physicians and embraces a holistic approach providing patients with both advanced retina care services and comprehensive vision services including glasses, cataract surgery, glaucoma treatments, and general exams.
